and make your way at your own pace to your first accommodation. The afternoon is
all about settling in and soaking up the atmosphere. The historic town centre,
with its cobbled streets, colourful galleries and cosy cafés, combines colonial
charm with a laid-back creative spirit. In the evening, savour the flavours of
Mexican cuisine – whether ceviche, mole or tacos al pastor – as your journey
begins with a taste of the sea and the vibrant spirit of Mexico.

Today your journey of discovery through the southern half of the peninsula begins.
Your destination is La Paz, beautifully situated on the shores of the tranquil
Sea of Cortez. But there are plenty of fascinating stops along the way.
Perhaps you’ll take a detour into the Sierra de la Laguna, where a hidden
waterfall offers a refreshing break, or visit a local ranch for a traditional
lunch beneath the palm trees. Alternatively, follow the historic Ruta de la Plata,
passing abandoned chimneys and pioneer buildings in the former mining town of El Triunfo.
At the Cactus Reserve, take in the spectacular scenery before sampling a rather
unusual local treat: homemade cactus ice cream.
In the evening, take a stroll along La Paz’s Malecón, where dolphins sparkle
in the distance, locals and visitors enjoy a leisurely walk, and the sea
glows golden-red in the evening light.

Today is all about the Sea of Cortez, famously described by Jacques Cousteau as the
“Aquarium of the World”. Between November and April, you have the unique opportunity
to swim alongside whale sharks – gentle giants that can grow up to 14 metres long yet are completely peaceful.
All year round, a boat trip to Isla EspĂritu Santo is well worth it. Picnic on
pristine white-sand beaches, snorkel with sea lions and perhaps spot dolphins along the way.
Or discover the long-standing pearl culture of La Paz, combining your visit with a
trip to the Pacific’s largest coral conservation project.
Prefer to take it easy? Relax at the idyllic Balandra Bay or lively Playa Tecolote.
A visit to one of the local museums, such as the Whale Museum, or a stroll
through the market provides the perfect finishing touch to your day.

Today’s route takes you through the spectacular Sierra de la Giganta, a rugged
mountain range where dramatic canyons give way to unexpected oases. Vast desert
landscapes alternate with sweeping panoramic views and towering cacti.
If you are travelling between mid-January and late March, consider a detour to
Magdalena Bay, one of the world’s most important destinations for grey whale
watching, where mothers return with their calves. It is a deeply moving
encounter with these magnificent animals.
Alternatively, embark on an eco-friendly boat trip through mangroves,
sand dunes and tranquil lagoons, offering an intimate glimpse into the region’s fragile ecosystem.
By late afternoon, you arrive in Loreto, the oldest European settlement on
the Baja California peninsula. Here, colonial history, a welcoming MalecĂłn
and a slower, almost poetic pace of life await you – the perfect place to unwind and feel at home.

Today, Loreto reveals all its many facets: maritime adventures in the morning,
colonial history in the afternoon – and breathtaking landscapes in between.
A highlight is the boat trip to Isla Coronado, in the heart of the UNESCO-protected
Loreto Bay National Marine Park. Snorkelling among sea lions and colourful schools of fish,
swimming from a white volcanic beach or hiking through dunes and rugged volcanic terrain, you can experience the quiet wildness of this natural paradise.
In the afternoon, a world of stone, silence and spirituality awaits. The drive up
through the rugged Sierra de la Giganta to the remote Mission San Javier is an
experience in itself. Surrounded by gnarled olive trees, you arrive at a place where
time seems to have stood still – and perhaps you can sample the fruit wine once enjoyed by the Jesuits.
Alternatively, take things at a slower pace in Loreto itself: enjoy a stroll along the MalecĂłn,
visit the historic mission and museum in the old town, or relax in a small palm-shaded café.
Adventurous travellers can venture to the remote Cueva de la Serpiente, where prehistoric rock paintings await the curious explorer.

Today you follow the spectacular coastal road along BahĂa ConcepciĂłn, one of the
most scenic routes in Baja California. Time and again, panoramic views open up over
turquoise waters, gently swaying palms and crystal-clear bays such as Playa El Coyote and
Playa El Requesón – perfect places to stop for a swim, a break or simply to linger and take in the scenery.
In Mulegé, also known as “Heroica Mulegé”, history comes vividly to life. Once bravely
defended against US forces, the town is now characterised by its colonial heritage
and proud traditions. From Mission Santa RosalĂa, look out over a lush palm oasis
stretching through the desert like an emerald ribbon. The town’s unbarred prison
tells a remarkable story of trust and community – an unexpected glimpse into local history.
In Santa RosalĂa, a distinctive French-Mexican character awaits. Iron structures,
old steam locomotives, a church designed by Gustave Eiffel and the region’s oldest
bakery bear witness to the town’s former copper boom. At the El Boleo Mining Museum,
discover artefacts from this era – a testament to the hard work, ambition and hopes of those who worked deep beneath the earth.
On the way to Guerrero Negro, Baja reveals its wilder side once again. The Tres
VĂrgenes volcanoes rise like stone guardians over the landscape, while Cueva El RatĂłn,
high above a canyon, offers a glimpse into the region’s prehistoric past through its ancient rock paintings.
By late afternoon, you reach Guerrero Negro, named after the shipwrecked whaler Black Warrior.
Today, this remote town is a centre for salt production and whale watching – a rugged,
authentic corner of Baja where life remains closely connected to the surrounding landscape.

Early in the morning, the salt flats of Guerrero Negro shimmer in the first light,
reflecting the sky as the white salt crystals sparkle in the sun. At the old lighthouse,

tour of the world’s largest saltworks, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how this precious “white gold” is produced.
During whale-watching season (January–March), head to Laguna Ojo de Liebre, part of the
UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, for the chance to see grey whales up close – an unforgettable encounter on the water.
A stop at “Doña Lala” is well worth it for fresh seafood served in an unpretentious, local setting.
In the afternoon, continue to the palm oasis of San Ignacio, with its historic mission,

During whale-watching season (January–March), your day begins with a journey to
the remote Laguna San Ignacio. Following sandy tracks, you reach this extraordinary place where,
accompanied by experienced boat guides, you can experience grey whales and their calves
at close range. It is a quiet, moving encounter that will stay with you long after you leave.
Alternatively, visit an oyster farm, where you can sample freshly harvested seafood
while observing the lagoon’s diverse birdlife – from courting frigatebirds to
elegant cormorants diving into the water.
The long but wonderfully varied journey takes you back along BahĂa ConcepciĂłn,
with stops at secluded beaches for a refreshing swim, before continuing south
through the dramatic Sierra de la Giganta.
By evening, you reach the remote fishing village of Puerto San Carlos, where
life still moves at an unhurried pace. Surrounded by pelicans, the quiet harbour
and the scent of freshly caught sardines, you will receive a warm welcome from Jacibe and Pepe.

sometimes close enough to hear them breathe. It is a moment filled with both awe and wonder.
Outside the whale season, the boat trip reveals other sides of this extraordinary ecosystem:
sea turtles, dolphins and colonies of seabirds, as well as the chance to swim
in the warm waters of the lagoon. Every season has its own magic here.
Spend the afternoon at your leisure – perhaps taking a leisurely walk along the shore,
enjoying a coffee on the terrace or simply watching the fishing boats resting

Today’s road leads you to Todos Santos, a charming town where colonial architecture,
artistic flair and wide Pacific beaches come together. Wander through its galleries,
visit the legendary Hotel California, and discover a place where history and creative energy blend effortlessly.
Between September and March, you can take part in the release of young sea turtles
into the wild – a quiet, deeply moving moment by the Pacific.
Or embrace the vibrant spirit of Mexico with a cooking class with Chef Iker.
Mix your own margarita, dance to salsa rhythms and create delicious Mexican dishes –
with plenty of heart, rhythm and laughter along the way.

On the final day of your journey, follow the coast to Cabo San Lucas. Here, you can

expressions of tequila during a tequila tasting – a final sip of Mexican culture before your journey comes to an end.
